The event organized by the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation Idac, will be attended by the Minister of Tourism David Collado and 20 other senior government officials, as well as delegates from 193 Icao member countries.
The general director of Idac, Héctor Porcella, stated that the celebration of this event in the country is a high recognition to the Dominican Republic and especially to the positioning of tourism and civil aviation, since it will be the first time that the global symposium will have its headquarters in a nation on the American continent, after having been carried out in Turkey and Korea.
He indicated that the third edition of the Icao symposium seeks to strengthen a global strategy to strengthen the safety and sustainable development of the industry and ensure that all citizens enjoy the increasing benefits of international civil aviation.
At the opening ceremony scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at the convention center of the Barceló hotel, President Abinader, the president of the Icao, Salvatore Sciacchitano; the Minister of Tourism, David Collado; and the general director of Idac, Héctor Porcella, in his capacity as local host of the meeting.
The main themes of the global symposium

Idac highlighted that the topics of the symposium will range from the development of modern airport infrastructure appropriate to the growth rate of civil aviation, to response and preparation in crisis situations, advanced air mobility and the role of air transport in the growth of the tourism, as well as proposals for aeronautical development, exploring the importance of emerging technologies to promote effective training projects, in addition to competency-based training, in an attempt to prepare qualified human capital adaptable to the demands of the future.
The symposium aims to showcase the latest digital tools developed by Icao and highlight the entity’s main initiatives and collaborative efforts to strengthen aviation resilience, drive innovation, promote sustainable development, offering new operational solutions in benefit of the participating countries.
Discussions will also focus on the “Finvest Hub” initiative proposed by Icao, which emphasizes the need to increase collaboration between the aviation sector and financial institutions, to meet the goal of decarbonizing aviation by 2050, and In addition to participating in discussions with aviation experts, Member States will have the opportunity to explore the latest products and services in the sector, led by sponsors and exhibitors.
The symposium is open to all aviation-related entities, including ministries, directorates general of civil aviation, international and regional organizations, aviation service providers, financial and development institutions, academic institutions, industrial partners and other interested parties.
Icao and Idac have extended invitations to the main authorities of the Dominican State and a notable representation of the country’s business leadership.
