Santo Domingo. The general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) confirmed that the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA) already audited the country’s aviation system.

Hector Porcella explained that the IDAC is now in a waiting period of 60 days for the second visit of the auditors, when they will come to evaluate the accomplishment of the recommendations they made. “After this first phase we have full confidence that we will keep category 1, which is fundamental for international air operations and tje confidence in the safety of national aviation,” he said.

The FAA audit is a critical process for any nation seeking to maintain air relations with the United States and is a key indicator of the quality and safety of its air operations. “Keeping category 1 is a priority for the Dominican Republic,” Porcella said, reiterating his confidence that the country will successfully pass this assessment. “The expectation that FAA auditors will return in 60 days to conduct the second phase of the audit is a reminder of the importance of maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality in the nation’s civil aviation,” he said.

The director general of IDAC highlighted that this process is a testament to the Dominican Republic’s ongoing commitment to excellence in aviation, to the safety of passengers and  for air operators.

Porcella considered as remarkable the hard and constant work by IDAC’s flight standards staff and the support of President Luis Abinader, and stressed that maintaining category 1 is not only essential for aviation safety, but also for the positive impact on the country’s economy as the fundamental platform for tourism and international trade.
