Paris, France.- The general director (i) of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (Idac) Héctor Porcella welcomed the willingness of the authorities and the leadership of commercial aviation to assume the reduction of carbon footprint as one of the main priorities of the industry.

Porcella made the statement after participating in the opening ceremony of the 54th edition of the Paris Air Show 2023, which was headed by French President Emmanuel Macron at Le Bourget Airport in Paris, an event that in this occasion brings together the actors of this global industry around the latest technological innovations in aviation.

“For our delegation, it is especially gratifying to note that at the regional level the Dominican Republic, with the support of Icao and President Luis Abinader, has maintained a leadership position in the promotion of initiatives associated with the protection of the environment, control of carbon emissions and adoption of urgent measures to reverse the global impact of climate change,” Porcella said.

He recalled that Idac has been co-responsible, together with Icao and other regional organizations, for organizing important events regardomg the global strategy of reducing carbon emissions to zero, as well as adopting new sources of clean energy for aeronautical activity.

He said that the Paris air show is not only important for new technologies and advances in global aviation, but also for the projections and trends that will affect the sector, including the imminent increase in the prices of aircraft, fuel, air tickets and the strategies that must be considered to mitigate the impact of these changes.

The Paris Air Show is an international aeronautic and aviation fair organized every two years by a subsidiary company of the French Association of Aeronautical Industry where the most modern technologies of the aerospace industry are presented, including aircraft engines, satellite and navigation technology, aircraft cockpits and seats and weapons systems.

This fair has become over the years as one of the most important international platforms in the sector. In the current eddition, where some 140,000 trade visitors and about 180,000 from the general public are expected to attend, more than 150 aircraft are being presented daily with flight exhibitions in which exhibitors show to the public their technical knowledge.

The fair is complemented by the exchange of knowledge and experiences, as well as proposals for solutions to problems related to the aeronautical sector around the world.
