
Santo Domingo. The general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation Idac, Héctor Porcella said that the country has qualified technicians and, the updating level required by international organizations, to guarantee the operational safety of its aeronautical system.
He assured that IDAC is prepared for the audit to be carried out by the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA), and stressed that the institution has spared no effort to improve the training of its human resources, either through its Higher Academy of Aeronautical Sciences Asca, as well as specialization in courses abroad, or by hiring international experts to monitor processes and assist the Dominican technicians.
“The first thing that the current Idac team appointed by the President of the Republic did was to make a diagnosis of how we were in terms of technical preparation, after which, and despite finding a very qualified staff, we considered the necessity to update them in the new aeronautical procedures of the technical areas. especially those with greater responsibility for operational safety,” said Porcella during his participation as an exhibitor in the discussion “Where is the country going?”, organized by the Business Forum group.
The head of Idac indicated that civil aviation has become the main ally of tourism and, therefore, of the country’s economy, contributing with more than 18,000 weekly passengers, to and from the Dominican Republic with seven new airlines of local invoice, which indicates that there is absolute confidence of national and foreign investors in the economic and social stability of the Dominican Republic.
“As an island territory which greatest economic impact is provided by tourism and taking into account that 98 percent of the tourists that the country receives arrive by air, we are aware of the role we play as an institution, which is why it is so important to take care of our operational safety and unite our technical areas to advance towards the goal of 10 million visitors in a year. “
The panel “Where is the country going?”, organized by the Business Forum group, also included the participation of the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Víctor Bisonó; the Minister of Labor, Luis Miguel De Camps; the Minister of Housing, Carlos Bonilla; Jean Luis Rodríguez, director of the Port Authority and the RD Vial Trust; Ernesto Bournigal Read, Superintendent of the Securities Market; and Edward Guzmán, General Manager of the National Social Security Council.
