
The general director interim of the Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civil, Idac, Héctor Porcella, affirmed that the coastal cleaning day developed by some 50 public and private entities and more than 2,500 volunteers exceeded expectations and demonstrated a benchmark of civic responsibility that should be replicated and multiplied in the future.
Porcella, who led a large contingent of public servants of the institution that worked in different parts of La Caleta, Andrés-Boca Chica and Juan Dolio, congratulated the volunteers that joined the cleaning day and ratified the commitment to institutionalize the initiative as part of Idac’s social responsibility policy.
“According to data we have received, it has been the most intensive coastal cleaning that has been carried out in the country in a long time,” said the head of Idac.
The operative called “A beach for the fatherland” was held in 17 previously selected places and had the support of the Association of Public Servants of Idac, Asp-Idac, of several ministries and general directorates of the Government; as well as airlines, Dominican Red Cross, Volunteer Public Servants and the aeronautical sector; mayors of the impacted communities and groups committed to the defense of the environment, such as Vida Azul and Donato Ambiental.
The president of Asp-Idac, Antonio Beato, confirmed that the cleaning plan covered several areas of Puerto Plata, Sosúa, Cabarete, San Rafael, La Casita and Guarocuya in Barahona, as well as Najayo in San Cristobal, Playa Gringo in Haina, La Playita of Nigua, La Garita and Los Cacaos in Samaná, Playa Managua in Sanchez and other beach areas in Juan Dolio, Guayacanes; La Caleta in La Romana and Ubero Alto in Punta Cana.
He thanked the enthusiastic participation of the collaborators of the ministries of the Presidency, Tourism and Environment, the National Council for Climate Change, Procompetencia, Punta Cana Group Foundation, the senatorial offices of San Cristóbal and Barahona, the Civil Defense, the governorates of Higüey, Puerto Plata and Barahona, Fuerza Aérea de la República Dominicana, as well as the Vida Azul Foundation, the associations of public servants of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library, Airport Department; the Specialized Airport Security Corps, Cesac, Supérate, Hodelpa Hotels, Barahona Polytechnic, CB Foundation and the Najayo Arriba Municipal School, as well as several fire departments.
Meanwhile, Idac´s director of Planning and Development, Sarah Estévez, valued the enthusiastic and voluntary integration of the entity’s staff, including representatives of the different sector directorates and coordination offices throughout the country, and announced that the social responsibility team will start working immediately for the next cleaning day, in coordination with the Association of Public Servants of IDAC and the Directorate of Sustainable Development.
She also highlighted the institutional and personal contribution of the general director Héctor Porcella, who was not only actively present during the day, but also delivered valuable contributions to continue the work of social responsibility to the fire departments of several impacted localities.
