Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, marked a new milestone in its institutional trajectory by bringing together more than 900 collaborators from different areas and hierarchical levels in the virtual training “Interaction and dignified treatment of people with disabilities from a rights-based perspective,” conducted by representatives of the National Council on Disability, Conadis.

The purpose of the event was to raise awareness and strengthen the culture of respect, inclusion, and equity in the institution, reaffirming that diversity is a strength and that each person has a valuable role in the development of the aviation sector.

In his opening remarks, the general director of the Idac, Igor Rodríguez Durán, highlighted that: “This is another step towards an inclusive and humane Idac. Disability does not limit the ability to contribute, and in our institution, we have living examples of this. This workshop prepares our staff on how to treat those living with a disability both inside and outside the institution.”

Currently, the Idac has 2,328 collaborators, of which 21 live with a disability (0.9% of the total). Significantly, 62% are women, reflecting an intersectional commitment to gender equity and functional diversity.

Likewise, the president of Conadis, Benny Metz, thanked the initiative of the general director of Idac, the Planning and Development and Human Resources departments of this institution, for the desire to train its staff in dealing with people with disabilities.

We appreciate that the Idac promotes the values of inclusion, equality, and equity among its collaborators. It is important to remember that these awareness programs are not carried out to meet an indicator of the Ministry of Public Administration, but out of a social commitment that we have taken on and that motivates us to promote these values within the state institutions,” added Metz.

These people play key roles as aides, administrative assistants, secretaries, and inspectors, demonstrating that inclusion contributes to the technical and operational development of civil aviation.

The Director of Planning and Development of Idac, Yildis Almonte, emphasized that this day is part of milestone number 9 of the Public Administration Monitoring System, Sismap, which includes joint actions with Conadis, such as accessibility assessments, training sessions, and the establishment of a specialized committee.

While the Human Resources director highlighted the impact of awareness on the cultural transformation of the institution, stating that “an accessible and respectful work environment makes us better as a team and as a country.”

The workshop “Interaction and Dignified Treatment of People with Disabilities from a Rights-Based Approach” was led by Greisy García Grullón and Ivelisse Villavicencio, facilitators from the Awareness Division of Conadis, and moderated by José Raúl Vargas, head of the Equality Division of Idac. About 770 collaborators from the institution joined, setting a record for virtual attendance at workshops held by the institution.

With initiatives like this, the Idac not only fulfills its institutional role, but also positions itself as a benchmark for inclusion within the Dominican public administration and the international aviation sector.
