International expert evaluates with Idac human factors that affect operational safety

Punta Caucedo.  The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation Idac, organized through the Higher Academy of Aeronautical Sciences (ASCA) a workshop called “SMS plus human factors: perfect formula for Operational Safety”, given by the international expert Víctor Manuel del Castillo, and was dedicated to guiding the technical and operational actors of the Dominican aeronautical sector on the new resources and tools applicable to prevent, mitigate and efficiently reduce the risks involved in air operations in the field of civil and commercial aviation.

“This workshop, rightly called SMS, Safety Management System, More Human Factors is an extremely timely contribution to complement the commitment assumed by Idac to respond to the great challenge posed by the exponential growth registered by the Dominican aeronautical system”, said the technical coordinator of the general directorate Carlos Alcántara, on behalf of Héctor Porcella.

He highlighted the constantly growing of the demand for training  the personnel of national airlines, as reflected in the steady increase in courses and diplomas registered by the Asca, especially since 2021.

The director of Asca, Clara Fernández, thanked the presence of the international expert Víctor Manuel del Castillo for his participation in the workshop and  the contributions offered to the technicians and students of the academy.

Víctor Manuel del Castillo is an international specialist in human factors and SMS Implementation, with more than 53 years of experience in civil and military aviation for the American continent and in Spain.

The topics addressed during the presentation included “Myths and realities of human factors”, “How can I be competent”, “The 4 pillars of SMS”, “Traditional approach of some organizations”, “What they have to know to be happy” and “9 reasons why an SMS does not work properly°.

The workshop in the aula magna of the Asca was also attended by the directors of Operational Safety Surveillance, Gender Castro; Human Resources, Ana Ysa Tejeda; Air Navigation, Claudia Roa; Regulation and National Aircraft Registry, Franklin Reyes Rossó; Financier, Abel Taveras; of Sustainable Development, Miguel Mejía; of Audit, Fernando Cruz; of Transparency and Citizen Attention, Bosco Guerrero Heredia; as well as aeronautical technicians and Idac personnel.
