Santo Domingo. – The general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, Igor Rodríguez Durán, stated that, as a result of the recent signing of the Open Skies agreement with the United States of America and having passed the audit of the Federal Administration of North America, Faa, which confirms Category 1, the Dominican Republic reaffirms itself as one of the most important destinations for international tourism.
“We are a perfect place from which you can become a hub at all levels, not only for aviation, but also in maritime terms. That helps us, with a good country strategy, to achieve the development of civil aviation in the best possible way,” said the official.
Rodríguez added that in addition to these advantages, there is also the relevant role played by technologies, which well used in civil aviation, guarantee operational safety, save lives and collaborate so that, in addition to the sense of the human and the preparation that piloting an aircraft entails, they are a guarantee when it comes to complying with the quality standards required internationally in the aeronautical system.
In addition to making the best use of technologies, the general director of Idac is committed, from his management, to promoting better conditions of the infrastructures in the country’s international airports, to guarantee greater operational safety.
As the country is a member state of the International Civil Aviation Organization, Icao, with direct participation in the decision-making that defines regulations and standards worldwide, the official reaffirmed his commitment to work so that the nation continues to be a benchmark for compliance with aviation standards in the region.
“The Dominican Republic, without a doubt, is very well positioned, we are committed to taking civil aviation to the next level in which we are now and to place ourselves at the height of the situation, given the moment we are living as aviation worldwide. Due to our geographical position, with our closest and most important trading partner, which is the United States of America, our participation and influence before international organizations is very relevant,” he emphasized.
The official was hopeful that, in the coming years, given the Open Skies agreements with the United States, plus the confirmation of Category 1, the country and locally registered aircraft will have more access to that market and aligned with the number of airports that it has as a State and the flow of visitors. “It places us in an important situation at the regional level.”
Rodríguez Durán, who is a computer system engineer, with a specialty in software engineering and master’s degrees in Business Administration and Logistics, is also an aviator pilot, so his link to the aeronautical area is closely linked to his tasks, which guarantees a successful management at the head of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation.
