Santo Domingo.  The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, reported that, for security reasons, the prohibition of operating private drones over voting precincts during election day this Sunday, February 18, is maintained.

This way, the Idac ratifies the measure applied in the two electoral rounds of 2020, adopted in the interest of eliminating any risk factor in the country’s voting centers.

The general director of Idac, Héctor Porcella, reported that this provision will be extended to the presidential and legislative elections on May 19, and explained that said resolution was originally issued at the request of the Central Electoral Board.

The regulations corresponding to resolution 06-2020 restrict the flight of remotely piloted aircraft from 6:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the afternoon on Sunday, with the exception of drones operated by military and police authorities in the performance of their security responsibilities.

In the same resolution, users and owners of drones are warned that violation of the measure will lead to the application of sanctions and penalties provided for by current Civil Aviation legislation.
