Punta Caucedo, RD. – The Director of Air Navigation of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, said that the institution continues its consolidation as a pioneer in the region, in the preparation of its personnel to face global problems related to air traffic control and risk management in operational safety.

Claudia Roa Ochoa, architect and air traffic controller, and who is the first woman to lead the strategic Directorate of Air Navigation, Dina, of Idac, made the statement at the end of a course at the Higher Academy of Aeronautical Sciences, Asca, on ATC Sector Capacity and Runway System Capacity, taught by international instructors from the Department of Airspace Control, Decea, of Brazil.

“This training makes IDAC a pioneer in the region, and proactively prepares Air Navigation personnel to face global problems, such as airspace congestion, flight delays, increased fuel consumption and emissions of polluting gases and increased safety risk,” said Claudia Roa.

She said that the new challenges of civil aviation requires efficient air traffic flow management, which consists of strategically planning and monitoring the evolution of aircraft leaving, arriving and overflying at aerodromes and airspaces, in order to prevent their declared capacities from being exceeded and reaching saturation levels, ensuring that they are used in periods of greater peak optimally.

Roa affirmed that this training will contribute to having available essential data to restructure the Dominican airspace and face the growth of projected air operations, guarantee operational safety. orderly and expedition management of air traffic flow.

The Director of Air Navigation of Idac expressed her gratitude to the international instructors of Decea-Brazil and valued the contribution of the Asca and its director Clara Fernández, along with all its staff, and congratulated the excellent performance, commitment, professionalism and dedication shown by the 25 air traffic controllers who received the training.
