Villa Altagracia, Dominican Republic – The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) carried out a reforestation initiative in the municipality of Villa Altagracia as part of its ongoing efforts to help conserve natural resources and promote a culture of environmental responsibility.
Approximately 2,500 native mahogany, pine, and guásara trees were planted during the activity. The seedlings were provided by the local office of the Ministry of Environment, whose representatives joined IDAC employees throughout the reforestation effort.

“Today we are planting lives. This reforestation activity in this beautiful area of Villa Altagracia is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility efforts. As an institution whose work has an impact on the environment, this is a shared commitment to give back to the earth a portion of what we have taken from it. May this serve as an act of responsibility toward future generations,” said Claudio Martínez, IDAC Director of Communications, speaking on behalf of Director General Igor Rodríguez Durán.

Meanwhile, Inauri Reyes, Head of Reforestation for the Ministry of Environment in Villa Altagracia, explained that reforestation begins long before trees are planted. It involves a technical process that includes collecting and selecting seeds, germinating them in nurseries, and caring for the seedlings for five to six months before transplanting them into the field.

The specialist also emphasized the vital role trees play in preserving water resources, capturing carbon dioxide, producing oxygen, and preventing soil erosion and flooding.
Following the remarks, participants received technical guidance on proper tree-planting techniques before heading to the designated reforestation area, where they planted a variety of forest species as part of the joint effort to strengthen the area’s vegetation cover.
