
Santo Domingo.-The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, clarified that the first Doppler radar installed in the Dominican Republic to strengthen the operational safety of the country aeronautical system, its indeed in service and to the disposition of the National Wether Office, Onamet, and it will start to operate to its full capacity in the following days with the integration of 16 dominican technicians trained in Finland and some other trained.
Héctor Porcella, Idac’s Interim general director, recalled that the radar installation commission to operate in Punta Cana International Airport the busiest air traffic in the country, started in the month of may of the current year 2022 and its practically ready for its inauguration, since it already counts with the factory certification.

Idac, with the full support of president Luis Abinader, has made an extraordinary effort to make possible in a record time this important project, that not only it will reinforce the operational safety of the dominican aeronautical system, but it will also serve to support the weather forecast system of the National Weather Office”, pointed Porcella.
He indicated that Doppler radar,the most modern in the caribbean, its already at the service of airport East operations and ONAMET,and it will be officially inaugurated in the next days with the incorporation of the 16 trained technicians in Finland seat of the supplier company. It will be available also in IDACs web page and in the Weather regional network.
He explained that the radar installed it will has and instant coverage to support operations in Punta Cana airport, La Romana and the Great Santo Domingo, but the general plan,includes the installation of other two similars radar to north region airports and south region of the country.
He precised that the project in a culmination phase its a Dominican Government iniciative through Idac, and not other private group, as had been pointed out in some publications erroneously.
Assuring that with the commissioning of the new radar in the Dominican Republic the country will strengthen its reputation as one of the safety aeronuticals destiny in Latin America.
