
The anniversary was celebrated with a thanksgiving mass at the Santa Bárbara Military Cathedral in the Colonial City.
Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Civil Aviation Institute, Idac has consolidated its position as a state institution with broad national and international reach, achieving a recognition that has been maintained for the past 70 years, since its creation in 1955, when it was established as the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics.
On the occasion of its 70th anniversary, its Director General, Igor Rodríguez Durán, led the representation of civil and military authorities, figures linked to the world of aviation in the country, and, most especially, IDAC officials and collaborators, during the thanksgiving Mass offered for the special date, held at the Military Cathedral of Santa Bárbara in the Colonial City.
“This anniversary is a fitting occasion to pay tribute to all those who, at every stage of our history, have contributed their effort, passion, and commitment to making Idac what it is today. We thank the pioneers, past directors, technicians, controllers, inspectors, and all the administrative and operational staff who have been the heart of this institution,” said Rodríguez Durán.
He affirmed that Idac is a solid institution, recognized both nationally and internationally, committed to the highest standards of operational safety, transparency, innovation, and service.
The transformation of Dominican civil aviation has been extraordinary. We have evolved from a limited initial structure to a robust organization with a modern infrastructure, highly trained human talent, and a clear vision for the future, in line with the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization, Icao.

The head of Idac added that, “Looking ahead, the challenges are enormous. The aviation industry is changing at a dizzying pace, driven by technology, environmental sustainability, and the new dynamics of air transport. Our commitment is to continue strengthening the aviation authority, promoting innovation, and ensuring that the Dominican Republic remains a regional benchmark in civil aviation.”
In this 70th anniversary, Idac has demonstrated its commitment to safer, more efficient, inclusive, and environmentally friendly aviation, always serving the nation’s economic and social development.
The Thanksgiving Mass was officiated by Reverend Father Milcíades Florentino, parish priest of the Santa Bárbara Military Cathedral, and was attended by Idac Director General Igor Rodríguez Durán and his wife, Milli Núñez, as well as by Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza.
Also present were Idac Deputy Director General Paola Aimée Plá Puello; Héctor Porcella, President of the Civil Aviation Board, Jac; Víctor Pichardo, Executive Director of the Airport Department; Major General Floreal T. Suárez Martínez, Fard, Commander-in-Chief of the Dominican Republic Air Force; Brigadier General Enmanuel Souffront Tamayo, Fard, Director of Cesac; and Bernarda Franco Candelario, Secretary of the Civil Aviation Board, Jac.
