
Santo Domingo. The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation Idac, and the Army of the Dominican Republic, ERD, formalized an agreement to strengthen institutional collaboration regarding security and defense of the national territory in the land and airspace.
The agreement was signed by Idac Director General Héctor Porcella and the Commander General of the Army, Major General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre.
“The IDAC is the country’s authority responsible for the supervision and surveillance of civil aviation in the national territory and airspace, in compliance with the civil aviation safety and security standards established by our laws and the rules outlined by the International Civil Aviation Organization, Icao,” Porcella said.
Porcella highlighted the importance of this initiative, which corresponds to the will of President Luis Abinader to fully comply with article 10 of the Constitution of the Republic, which declares the security, economic, social and tourist development of the border area as supreme and permanent national interest.
According to Porcella, the security measures promoted by the government on the border line are complemented by important infrastructure works and investment program executed through the Border Development Strategy, which actions have begun to positively transform the reality of this area.
Major General Fernández Onofre explained that the signing of the agreement was authorized by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Díaz Morfa, so that the Army, as the institution responsible for land military operations, coordinates actions with the Idac, to guarantee the territorial integrity of the Dominican Republic.
