Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, and the National Council on Disability, Conadis, held a high-level meeting with the aim of moving towards a more inclusive and accessible aviation for users.

The Idac and Conadis committed to jointly implementing new initiatives during 2025 and 2026, including: workshops on universal accessibility, institutional diagnostics, the formation of a Disability and Universal Accessibility Committee, specialized courses, and improvement plans in physical, digital, and communicational accessibility.

The Director General of the Idac, Igor Rodríguez Durán, emphasized that the institution “is committed to ensuring that Dominican aviation is a sector that respects diversity, values talent, and opens the doors to all people without distinction.”

Meanwhile, the president of Conadis, Benny Metz, highlighted the importance of this approach so that the rights of persons with disabilities are translated into concrete actions.

Currently, the Idac has 2,328 collaborators, of which 21 have some type of disability, 0.9%, 62% of them are women, which shows an intersectional approach that connects gender equity with social inclusion.

These professionals perform highly relevant functions, ranging from aviation inspection to administrative tasks, demonstrating that disability is not an obstacle to contributing to the technical and human development of the sector.

In terms of infrastructure, the Idac has made significant strides by adapting spaces such as the Norge Botello building, which is equipped with ramps, elevators, and inclusive bathrooms. On a cultural level, awareness programs have also been designed, including a day with 700 collaborators planned for September 9, aimed at promoting values of respect, inclusion, and active citizenship.

This meeting marks a firm step towards building an aerospace sector that reflects the values of inclusion, respect, and dignity, contributing to making the Dominican Republic a regional benchmark in terms of accessibility and equality of rights.

The general director of the Idac was accompanied by Yildis Almonte, director of Planning and Development; Claudio Martínez Turbí, director of Communications and Public Relations; Maribel López, director of Human Resources; José Raúl Vargas, in charge of Gender Equality; and Cristina Marmolejos, responsible for Training.
