Porcella expresses full confidence that the country will emerge well from the audit recently applied by the Faa

Santo Domingo.- The general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, Héctor Porcella, stated that the Dominican Republic has become a regional reference in civil aviation and today has the best operational safety standards in Latin America. , and reiterated his full confidence that the audit carried out by the United States aeronautical authorities will be successful, although he acknowledged that 4 years ago the country was not prepared to pass the test of an audit by the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States, Faa, because national aviation showed a notable lag in updating its regulations and compliance standards.
He explained that the country’s aviation system was not prepared for an Iasa audit in 2020, nor in 2021, nor in 2022. “We would not have passed an Faa inspection if we did not adopt the urgent measures recommended by our national advisors. and foreigners and by the Faa auditors’ own observations to the extent to which the inspection that began in August 2023 was applied,” added the head of the Idac.
“The rigorous updating plan applied by the Idac in the last three years to prepare our technicians, update aviation standards and regulations, apply new methods to improve aeronautical operations and raise the quality of technical reports, allows us “It has allowed us to overcome many weaknesses that the sector showed,” said Porcella.
He highlighted that the most complete audit applied to the country’s aviation was carried out in 2007 and since then there was no rigorous monitoring of the needs to update and modernize the regulations and standards required by the Icao and the Faa.
He explains audit process
Porcella indicated that the Faa periodically carries out a technical evaluation of compliance with international civil aviation safety standards, in accordance with the standards of the Icao, which is a specialized agency of the United Nations where 193 nations are represented.
He said that the FAA technicians made a first visit and met with the Idac management and the responsible technical areas, thus beginning the audit process of the aviation system of the Dominican Republic.
“Once the first evaluation was completed, the Faa sent the Idac a report with its recommendations for improvements, giving us a period of three months to return and check the progress; Then they gave us a second consultation and we came out very well from that evaluation. We still do not have the final results, because an official communication is sent within a certain period.” Porcella pointed out.
We are still waiting for that result but I feel very happy and very confident since the Dominican Republic has done its homework and has a very solid aviation system, very technical and attached to the standards required by the Faa and the Icao.” , stressed the general director of Idac.
