Punta Cana, RD.- The secretary general of the International Civil Aviation Organization, Icao, stated that the Dominican Republic has become a regional air hub, with a dynamism of aeronautical transport that has served as motivation for many countries in the world.

Juan Carlos Salazar said that the experience of the Dominican Republic after the Covid-19 pandemic not only served to accelerate the reopening of international air markets, but also to overcome old schemes in crisis management related to civil aviation.

“In this sense, the Dominican aeronautical sector, from there, has continued to build on this great contribution, the importance of air transport to connect the country with the world,” said Salazar after completing the Global Aviation Implementation Symposium. Civil, of the Icao, held in the tourist community of Punta Cana, under the responsibility of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac.

“Actually, today the Dominican Republic is the connection center, the hub of the region and is experiencing a dynamism in air transport that all of us who are in aviation celebrate and follow very closely”… “I have been a witness of “except for the great work that the Dominican government led by President Luis Abinader has done together with the Idac and the other institutions of the country’s aeronautical sector,” highlighted the Colombian expert, recognizing that in the most difficult times of the pandemic, when flights were closed throughout the world, in the Dominican Republic government institutions in coordination with the private sector managed to ensure that aviation and tourism did not stop.

A world class event

Juan Carlos Salazar reviewed the results of the Global Symposium (GISS), pointing out that “the DR has demonstrated that it has held a world-class event, where we have had very important discussions and conclusions that serve to advance the aviation at a global level and has additionally placed in a very high place for the next host country of this event, which will be the United Arab Emirates. So there they have a great challenge to reach the same level that the Dominican Republic has achieved in this event.”

To put the event in context, he highlighted that “we held the first meeting of this global symposium in Turkey, the second event in Korea and this, which is the third event, I think has placed the barrier quite high, quite high, for success.” that he has had”…

“This event really sets the course for which ICAO is working in one of its pillars, which is to build the capacity of its Member States.”

About Icao

Juan Carlos Salazar: “The Icao, as many of you know, is the International Civil Aviation Organization, it establishes global aviation standards, but at the same time it outlines policies that the 193 member countries follow for world aviation and in this In this sense, we are also concerned that each of the States improve their capabilities and ensure that they are complying with those minimum standards, so that aviation is what all of us who use air transport know, which is the safest mode of transport that exists”..
