Santo domingo.- THE III Global Implementation Support Symposium of the International Civil Aviation Organization (Giss) will take place in Punta Cana from April 30 to May 2, 2024, with the expected participation of 95 countries.

When offering the information, the general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (Idac), Héctor Porcella, highlighted that this is one of the most important events of the ICAO, being the first time it will be held on the American continent.

According to Porcella, the choice of the Dominican Republic as the venue for this meeting is a recognition of the growing importance of this country in the field of world aviation, and reported that the organizing committee has issued official invitations to President Luis Abinader to preside over the opening ceremony, to the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and other officials and representatives of the Dominican aeronautical and business sector.

Under the direction and coordination of the Icao President, Salvatore Sciacchitano, and the Secretary General, Juan Carlos Salazar, with the support of Porcella himself as Director General of the host organization, the symposium aims to showcase the latest digital tools developed by Icao, as well as highlight the organization’s main initiatives and collaborative efforts to strengthen aviation resilience, drive innovation, promote sustainable development and offer new operational solutions.

Under the theme “Optimizing Aviation Capacity: Strategies for Safe Skies and a Sustainable Future,” the interactive panels will delve into crucial activities supporting implementation and capacity development. Topics will range from the development of modernized airport infrastructure to crisis response and preparedness, advanced air mobility and the role of air transport in the growth of tourism.

The symposium will also address key topics in aeronautical training, exploring the importance of emerging technologies to drive effective training projects, as well as competency-based training, to develop a qualified workforce adaptable to the demands of the future.

Discussions will also focus on the “Finvest Hub” initiative proposed by Icao, which emphasizes the need to increase collaboration between the aviation sector and financial institutions to meet the goal of decarbonizing aviation by 2050.

In addition to participating in discussions with aviation experts, Member States will have the opportunity to explore the latest products and services in the sector, from sponsors and exhibitors.

The symposium is open to all aviation-related entities, including ministries, directorates general of civil aviation, international and regional organizations, aviation service providers, financial and development institutions, academic institutions, industrial partners and other interested parties.
