Federal Aviation Administration Ratifies Dominican Republic as a Category 1 After Rigorous Air Safety Audit

Santo Domingo. – The executive director of the Flight Standards Service of the Federal Civil Aviation Administration of the United States, Faa, Lawrence Fields, delivered to the director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, Igor Rodríguez Durán, the final document for compliance with the obligations contained in the Chicago Convention and aviation security standards within the agreed deadlines.  to maintain Category 1, after passing the inspection and complying with operational safety standards.

The document, sent through a communication delivered by the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic, indicates that the Dominican aeronautical system was subjected to the audit required for compliance review purposes to maintain Category 1, by the International Aviation Safety Assessment Program, Iasa,   by the Faa, highlighting the hard work undertaken by the country through its safety oversight system, which yielded the positive results celebrated today.

“We determine that the Dominican Republic complies with the requirements and standards of the Chicago Convention and its annexes, for the supervision of civil aviation security, in consideration of the FAA’s determination based on the corrective actions taken by Idac to date, the Iasa category for the Dominican Republic will continue to be published as Category 1,”  highlights the letter sent by Representative Fields to the Dominican government.

In this sense, the general director of Idac, Igor Rodríguez, as representative of the Government of the Dominican Republic in that section, reiterated the commitment assumed, mainly by the President Luis Abinader and by the institution he heads, to continue faithfully complying with the requirements demanded by the organizations that govern international civil aviation.

“It is appropriate to highlight all the effort made by the Minister of Tourism David Collado and each person responsible for the different areas involved in the issue by Idac to achieve this certification, this comes to generate a formidable environment in the Dominican civil aviation sector,” said Rodríguez.

Fields was emphatic in his statement, recalling that the evaluation activity related to the Dominican Republic has concluded and that the Government of the United States will continue to monitor this country’s compliance with the safety standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization, Icao.

“We appreciate the positive way Idac worked with the Faa on this matter. Idac has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring effective oversight of the safety of the Dominican Republic’s aeronautical system. We look forward to working with you in the future,” he said.

In mid-August of this year, President Luis Abinader valued the results of the audit of the Federal Aviation Administration, Faa, that the country maintains category 1, after passing the inspection and complying with operational safety standards.

“We hope that, with this certification, we can have more Dominican airlines traveling, competing for routes in the United States. We assure that the airlines will have the full support of the government,” said the president.
