Santo Domingo. – The general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, Héctor Porcella, delivered the certification that accredits the AFP Crecer Group to operate the Winston Churchill Avenue corridor, in the delivery of documentation to its affiliates, by means of unmanned aircraft, drones.
Porcella indicated that the certification constitutes a novel event for air navigation, both nationally and in the Caribbean area, since the country is the first in the region to incorporate the use of drones in this service.
For the Dominican Republic, this event gives way to innovation, both for our territory and for the entire region. For the first time we are going to have a form of delivery of documentation through unmanned aircraft, better known as drones, this through the AFP Crecer group, who have complied with all the technical and legal regulations, to be able to be certified in the use and operations of such an important area of the urban area of the National District. such as Winston Churchill Avenue,” Porcella said.
The official said that this initiative will boost the interest of other related companies and other characteristics, which will be interested in complying with the operational safety requirements demanded by the IDAC for their commercial activities.
The director of Innovation of AFP Crecer, Carlos Barranco, added that the group he represents is satisfied with the decision taken by the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation to put the Dominican Republic among the few countries worldwide that use this revolutionary technology.
“We have a low-altitude airspace that we intend to use to make deliveries by unmanned aircraft. AFP Crecer exhausted a process of about three years in research and studies, in rural tests that have been done and we have satisfactorily met all the standards, to be able to carry out this implementation,” Barranco said.
The purpose of the use of drones for the delivery of documentation is mainly to optimize the services offered by the company to its affiliates and improve the quality of delivery of these, from its Customer Service building, to its Corporate building and vice versa, which will reduce the time it takes for procedures, decongest traffic and reduce environmental pollution.
The corridor through which the state-of-the-art Drone, Matrix 300 RTK, operated by the company AFP Crecer, will travel will be that of Winston Churchill Avenue, in a north-south direction and vice versa. The nearest airport that will control the flights of the unmanned aircraft will be Joaquín Balaguer El Higüero, valid from February 1 to April 30, that is, three months of testing.
