Director of Idac emphasizes in New York open skies agreement as a boost to aviation and tourism.

New York. – The director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, Igor Rodríguez Durán, stressed that the open skies agreement with the United States represents a significant opportunity for both the civil aviation industry and users.

Rodriguez said that after more than 25 years of negotiations, this historic treaty will allow for greater liberalization of air transport between the two countries, opening the doors to competitiveness, growth and innovation.

“This agreement represents a direct way to growth, competitiveness, innovation, and is key in the business environment because of the opportunity it represents,” he explained.

He also stressed that open skies agreements allow airlines to operate with greater flexibility, eliminating restrictions on routes, frequencies and prices, which will benefit both companies and consumers.

During his speech at the Dominican Week 2024 in New York, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic, AmchamDR, the official highlighted the importance of the agreement in global connectivity and economic development.

“With more airlines competing on our routes, prices will become more accessible, which in turn will stimulate tourism,” he argued.

He also stressed that thanks to the leadership of the president, Luís Abinader, it has been possible to obtain this type of achievement that will positively impact the country, in addition to the commitment assumed by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado.

The event was also attended by Jacqueline Mora, technical deputy minister of the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, Ernesto Bournigal Read, Superintendent of the Stock Market; David Llibre, president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic, Asonahores, among others.
