Director of Idac and expert from the European Union evaluate environmental policy and quality management

SANTO DOMINGO. Mrs. Verónica García Malo, expert of the Corsia Project (Carbon Compensation and Reduction Plan for International Aviation) met with the general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation Idac, and the responsibles for its sustainable development area, to evaluate environmental programs and support compliance processes in quality management.

Other matters of interest discussed during Mrs. García Malo´s visit included the planned objective of  accreditating a CO2 emissions verification entity in the Dominican State, explained by the general director of Idac, Héctor Porcella, when announcing the agenda addressed during the meeting, in which the deputy general director in charge of the Directorate of Sustainable Development Miguel Amaury Mejía was  present, as well as the director coordinator Judit León, who explained the progress made in the technical aspects discussed.

Other relevant issues included carbon reduction measures for international aviation, compliance with the Conformity Assessment Body OVV-001, quality management systems, Nordom-Iso 14065:2013; and the criteria and policies issued by the Dominican Accreditation Agency Odac, for the verification of declared Greenhouse Gas declarations within the scope of the evaluation.

As part of the evaluations, Mrs. García Malo will review  the entire set of clauses corresponding to the NORDOM-ISO 14065: 2013 standard in the requested scope of accreditation, to the Environmental Technical Manual (DOC 9501); Volume IV Icao International Standard and Recommended Practices, Annex 16, Volume IV, Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation Corsia, specifically Appendix 6 for emissions reporting verification.

The European Union official seeks to establish whether the verification company representing the Dominican State complies with the requirements requested by the Corsia scheme, and to determine if that body would be able to be an accredited verifier.
